No one likes to wait too long for anything. We’re in an age of ‘instant’; with the ability to shop for anything from anywhere through mobile devices, it can make us more anxious when there are things we have to wait what seems like an unreasonable amount of time for.
In the medical world, being able to schedule an appointment can be difficult. The shortage of medical practitioners being available in certain locations, and the available ones being overbooked and unable to accommodate new clients is a good part of the reason why. In the dental industry there can sometimes be similar issues. In Australia, wait times have become a problem. “Leonard Crocombe from the Australian Dental Association Tasmanian Branch told 936 ABC Hobart he was not surprised by the long wait time in a state with high demand for services. ‘We have the highest proportion of people with health care cards,’ he said.”
They have however put a plan in place to ease the problem, and make things better for all patients. “The Oral Health Services work with a triage system, prioritizing the worst dental cases at the top of the list, while those considered low priority wait further down the line.”
Here in Ottawa we are lucky enough to not have an issue of this magnitude. There are many local Ottawa dental professionals to choose from and they have varying work hours to accommodate the schedules of all people.
